Musicians from the Hartford Symphony Orchestra perform a concert of chamber works inspired by the recent acquisition of an important bronze sculpture depicting the god Mars sculpted by Giambologna (1529–1608), one of the leading artists of the Italian Renaissance. Works by pivotal Italian composers Wolf-Ferrari, Menotti, and Dallapiccola celebrate themes of mythology and storytelling. Before the performance, Vanessa Sigalas, David W. Dangremond Chief Curator, discusses Giambologna and the bronze casting process. The Sunday Serenades Chamber Music Series is made possible in part by The Saunders Foundation Music Endowment at The Wadsworth in honor of Leonid Sigal, concertmaster, Hartford Symphony Orchestra.
