Join the Hope College Concert Band for “Landmarks & Waterways” — a musical journey through places of memory, homecoming and faith!Friday, Nov. 20 | 7 p.m.
Concert Hall, Jack H. Miller Center for Musical Arts
Free and open to the public — no tickets needed
At the heart of the program are two works from opposite sides of the world: Frank Ticheli’s setting of the beloved American folk song Shenandoah, and Ancient Flower by Japanese-born composer Yukiko Nishimura. A river song and a flower song, both carry a sense of hiraeth — the Welsh word for longing for a home, place or time that may no longer exist.
Also on the program: Ennio Morricone’s music from Cinema Paradiso with alto saxophone soloist Ben Gilpin, America the Beautiful, Adeste Fideles (“O Come, All Ye Faithful”) and Leroy Anderson’s Bugler’s Holiday, featuring a trumpet quartet.
Conducted by Dr. Anand Raj Sukumaran. Bring a friend and come cheer on our students and community musicians!
