EN: This talk presents Botanica, an indie tool designed for the creation and management of vegetation assets in virtual environments. It focuses on procedural, non-destructive workflows that enable fast generation of plants ranging from grass and flowers to complex trees, while making it easy to produce and maintain large numbers of variations. A live demonstration guides the audience through the entire process of plant creation, from initial design to integration in Unreal Engine.
CZ: Přednáška představí Botanica, nezávislý nástroj určený pro tvorbu a správu vegetačních assetů ve virtuálních prostředích. Zaměřuje se na procedurální, nedestruktivní workflow, který umožňuje rychlé generování rostlin od trávy a květin až po složité stromy, a zároveň usnadňuje vytváření i dlouhodobou údržbu velkého množství variací. Živá ukázka provede publikum celým procesem tvorby rostliny, od prvotního návrhu až po integraci do Unreal Engine.

Jeden z leaderu na enginu je i Čech: Michal Benátský, Principal Software Engineer, který byl jedním ze tří zakládajících rendering programátorů v Robloxu a už 11 let pomáhá určovat směr jeho vývoje. Dnes na enginu pracuje tým přibližně 25 lidí a jde o jeden z nejpoužívanějších enginů na světě.
Talk se zaměří na to, jak engine skutečně funguje. Jaké kompromisy jsou nutné pro extrémní scalabilitu a výkon.

One of the engine’s leaders is Czech: Michal Benátský, Principal Software Engineer. He was one of Roblox’s three founding rendering programmers and for the past 11 years has helped shape the direction of its development. Today, the engine is developed by a team of roughly 25 people and is among the most widely used engines in the world.
This talk will focus on how the engine really works, and on the trade-offs required for extreme scalability and performance..
