About this Event
Come along and get to know Grantham Museum’s historic Compton Organ!
These informal Open Console Days are a chance for Friends of Grantham Museum and members of the East Midlands Organ Museum to come together, play the organ, share their enthusiasm and enjoy a good old-fashioned museum social.
Whether you are an experienced organist, someone rediscovering the instrument, or simply interested in hearing and having a go at this remarkable piece of Grantham’s musical heritage, you are very welcome.
There’s no formal programme — just an opportunity to spend time with the Compton, meet fellow enthusiasts and enjoy a cup of tea and a chat.
The Compton has a special connection with Grantham, having originally been installed at the State Cinema (later the Granada Theatre) in 1937 before eventually returning to the town after more than 50 years away. The East Midlands Organ Museum is working with Grantham Museum to ensure that this wonderful instrument is not simply preserved, but played, enjoyed and shared with the community for years to come.
Open Console Days will take place throughout the year on a variety of dates.
