About this Event
Reparations starts with truth, and repair starts with us.
Join us for an evening of film, food and honest conversation, and learn together as a community.
We're screening both episodes of the BBC series Finding Britain's Slave Traders with David Olusoga; it shows who profited from the enslavement of our ancestors and how that wealth shaped Britain.
Afterwards, we'll come together for open reasoning.
Why we're doing it
To understand what was done to our ancestors, we have to understand the system of white supremacy that carried it out. We also have to see how that system has evolved into the inequalities our communities face today. Learning this is a form of self-repair, and it helps us repair our minds. It's also part of the wider conversation about reparations: what was taken, what is owed, and what healing looks like.
Too often we watch and absorb these stories alone, with no space to process them or learn together. This is our chance to change that. Raising our collective consciousness makes us more impactful in the work of seeking justice and tackling racism and white supremacy. With an each one, teach one, reach one mentality, we share what we learn and pass it on. When we come together we can solve our problems and meet our challenges more easily. We're stronger together.
