Are you and your family prepared?

Maryland Ministry of Agriculture, Inc. invites you to an afternoon devoted to community resilience, emergency preparedness, and food security.

Baltimore City Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) has confirmed participation, bringing an important emergency-preparedness component to the program.

CERT programs train community members in disaster preparedness and basic response skills and are designed to strengthen the ability of residents to help themselves, their families, and their neighbors during emergencies.

This event brings emergency preparedness together with another critical component of community resilience:

FOOD SECURITY

What happens when severe weather, power outages, financial hardship, transportation problems, supply disruptions, or other emergencies interfere with normal access to food and essential resources?

Preparedness begins before the emergency.

Participants will explore practical ways to become more prepared, more food secure, and more capable of supporting their households and communities.

What We’ll Cover

Emergency Preparedness
Learn practical steps households can take before emergencies happen, including planning, supplies, communication, and community readiness.

Food Security
Understand why access to food is a preparedness issue and how households and neighborhoods can strengthen their food security.

Growing Food at Home
Explore raised beds, containers, backyard food production, soil preparation, seasonal growing, and other practical ways to begin producing food.

Fall & Winter Readiness
Prepare for winter weather, power interruptions, food and water needs, household supplies, and other seasonal challenges.

Community Resilience
Learn why stronger households, connected neighbors, local food production, and preparedness planning create stronger communities.

Doing for Self
Explore practical ways families can increase their knowledge, skills, resources, and ability to meet more of their own needs.

Baltimore City CERT

We are pleased to announce the participation of the Baltimore City Community Emergency Response Team (CERT).

Baltimore City’s CERT program is part of the City’s community-readiness efforts and trains residents in areas including disaster preparedness, team organization, disaster medical operations, fire safety, and light search and rescue.

Their participation strengthens the emergency-preparedness component of this year’s program.

More Than an Event

November 28 is part of MD MOA’s broader effort to take food-security and community-resilience programming directly into Maryland communities.

Through the Community Resilience Emergency Management Task Force (CREMTF) initiative, MD MOA is developing programs centered around community food security, household preparedness, agriculture, emergency readiness, and practical resilience.

The upcoming fall and winter initiative will place particular emphasis on helping communities understand their food-security vulnerabilities and begin developing realistic solutions.

What You’ll Leave With

Participants should leave with a better understanding of:

How prepared is my household?

How much food and water should we have available?

How can we begin producing some of our own food?

What can we do before winter emergencies occur?

How can neighbors work together during disruptions?

How can I become involved in future MD MOA and CREMTF initiatives?
