We're gathering at Vantage Avenue Reserve this Saturday to call for a moratorium on the Clyde North Data Centre.Until Government legislate stronger safeguards for our people, communities, cultural, heritage, and environment, we cannot have this AI mega data centre in our community.
These power hungry AI data centres are being built in our communities, filling our neighbourhoods with more trucks, air pollution, constant noise, and raising serious concerns about access to drinking water. Meanwhile, unregulated AI is leading to workers losing jobs, creators having their work stolen, and our personal data being harvested by big corporations
At the rally, you'll hear from:
- Experts discussing data centre policy and why stronger regulation is needed
- Residents sharing what it is like to live next to a major data centre
- Community groups opposing proposed data centres in other parts of Victoria
- Local political candidates running for State Government, who will be invited to outline their position on data centre development.
We will also talk about the proposed site of the Clyde North Data Centre and you will hear more about its scale and operation.
Data centres are expanding rapidly across Australia, with Labor wanting Victoria to be the AI capital of Australia. Yet communities often have little meaningful input into where they are built or how their impacts are assessed. Our concerns include energy and water use, greenhouse emissions, diesel backup generators, construction and operational noise, impacts on local environments and the cumulative burden on surrounding neighbourhoods.
This is a peaceful, family-friendly community rally. Everyone is welcome.
Please RSVP, invite others and share the event.
