The allegation of helping her son seek safety should not be charged as a crime using our public tax dollars. Julie Valadez is a mother and domestic-abuse survivor whose custody case produced a published Wisconsin Court of Appeals decision reversing an award of custody to the father after a judicial finding of a pattern of domestic abuse.
She now faces felony prosecution in Walworth County arising from events after her 15-year-old son ran away from his father and reported abuse by his father.
The case raises serious questions about the misconduct in the investigation, unlawful federal administrative subpoenas, failures by the state for disclosure of key evidence, conflicts of interest, and whether the documented abuse and child-safety history was adequately considered and if the laws requiring the safety of the victims of domestic abuse are being followed.
