Community Connections is a recurring program at both the Main Library and North Quincy Library locations, where community members get to meet and mingle with local community leaders and organizations while learning about their missions and resources.
Join us this DV Awareness Month to meet ATASK (Asian Task Force Against DV) and DOVE, Inc. (Domestic Violence Ended) at the Main Library on October 10! Meet representatives from both organizations while we make friendship bracelets - limit 2 per guest; first come, first serve!
- ATASK (Asian Task Force Against DV) was incorporated in 1992 to address the gaps in services for Asian domestic violence survivors in the Greater Boston and Lowell areas, including low-income immigrants with limited English language capabilities. ATASK operates New England’s only emergency shelter, advocacy services, hotline, education programs, legal advocacy and outreach for Asian domestic violence survivors. With over forty distinct Asian languages and cultures represented in the Greater Boston and Lowell areas, linguistically and culturally accessible resources are vital to our ability to provide outreach, education, prevention, and direct services to the many families in need in Asian communities. Staff provide services in the following languages, in addition to English: Arabic, Bangla, Cantonese, Chiu Chau/Teochew, Filipino, Gujarati, Hindi, Indonesian, Khmer, Korean, Lao, Mandarin, Manipuri, Nepali, Oriya, Punjabi, Thai, Taishanese, Taiwanese, Toisanese, Urdu, and Vietnamese (as of October 2022) and they are prepared and provide services to clients of any Asian speaking or other language.
- Since 1978, DOVE, Inc. (Domestic Violence Ended) works with adults, elders/seniors, teens, and children who have been abused emotionally, financially, physically, and/or sexually. DOVE’s services include crisis intervention, danger assessment and safety planning, supportive counseling, emergency shelter, legal advocacy and representation, and community outreach, education, and training. DOVE remains the only domestic violence shelter and community-based service provider based in Norfolk County.
