Community Ballet with world famous queer dancer Adam Weinert invites dancers to explore creative approaches to ballet technique, emphasizing breath, alignment, and musicality within a supportive environment. The class begins with a thorough and methodical barre, progressing to center work and jumps to help build strength, balance, and grace.

These classes being offered by Adam are an unusual opportunity to be coached by a major figure in the dance world who is personable and gay.

The fall season of these classes is a 7-session series held on Mondays at 5:30-7:00 PM on November 2, 9, 16, 23, 30, December 7, and 14. You can attend any -- or all -- of the classes. Ballet shoes are optional. Previous dance training is recommended. Reservations encouraged, drop-ins welcome.

INSTRUCTOR: Adam Weinert has long been connected to the Berkshires through the many appearances of his modern dance company at Jacob’s Pillow. Adam is a choreographer who has produced two award-winning dance films screened nationally and abroad. His works have toured to four continents, including at the Museum of Modern Art, The Tate Britain Museum, and The Tate Modern Museum. In 2020 Adam was named a Bessie Honoree for his work reconstructing and interrogating the choreographic legacy of Modern Dance pioneer Ted Shawn. That same year, he launched Jacob’s Garden, a working farm, living archive, and participatory piece of choreography on the campus of the Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival.

Weinert also danced with The Metropolitan Opera Ballet Company, The Mark Morris Dance Group, and Shen Wei Dance Arts. He trained at the Royal Ballet School, the School of American Ballet, Juilliard, and NYU, and has performed with the Metropolitan Opera Ballet and Mark Morris Dance Group, among others. Weinert’s ongoing research includes teasing out the sensual connectivity between performance, agriculture, nourishment, and community.

Adam Weinert is also the new Executive Director of Hudson Hall at the historic Hudson Opera House, longtime Hudson (NY) resident, and a lifelong dancer. Weinert’s connection to Hudson Hall spans more than a decade, beginning with his 2014 residency developing Monument, later presented at Jacob’s Pillow and internationally. He is also known locally for directing "Rip the Nut," which is Hudson Hall’s inventive mashup of "The Nutcracker" and Rip Van Winkle. He is also co-founder of "Waterfront Wednesdays," a popular community event series on the Hudson River. Of Hudson Hall, Weinert says, “This building has long stood at the heart of Hudson’s civic and cultural life. I’m excited to keep that spirit alive."
