For the past year, four words have been written on Syd Sneddon’s bathroom mirror: “the birds still sing.” She reads them every morning as a check-in. As long as she can hear the birds, life is good.This fall, those words became a community art show. 🕊️
The Birds Still Sing

More than 25 local artists were each paired with a Utah bird, chosen for them intuitively by Syd. Over eight weeks, they followed that bird’s story wherever it led, working from a personal bird journal and meeting one-on-one with Syd along the way.
Some of the pieces look like birds. Many don’t. They’re about rest, courage, home, starting over, and finding your way back to yourself.
Every bird has a migration story. Some leave and come back, some stay through the cold, and some travel farther than seems possible for something so small. The show follows those stories through four seasonal routes, spread across the rooms of the historic Oquirrh School, a red-brick schoolhouse built in 1894.
During the evening:
🎶 Live music and light refreshments
🗣️ 5:00 PM: a short celebratory talk from Syd
🎨 A collaborative art station where you can add your mark to a shared piece
🤝 A community resource table
🪶 A chance to meet the artists
No art background needed. Bring a friend.
This is the first in a series of community art shows at Hearten House, rooted in something we believe deeply: healing happens in community.
📍 We’re on the 3rd floor, and there’s an elevator from ground level. Our staff will help you find your way.
