Communion, or the Lord's Supper, began on the final celebration of Passover for Jesus and his disciples. Jesus told his disciples to remember his sacrifice as they ate the bread and drank the wine. Just as Israel had celebrated the sacrifice of the Passover lamb when the angel of death passed over their homes, so believers in Jesus celebrate and remember his sacrifice for our sins when he died on the cross. The Lord's Supper uses small square shaped cracker, or piece of bread as a symbol of the body of Jesus and small individual cup of grape juice (in place of wine) as a symbol of his blood. The act of taking communion does not save us, it is an act of worship and remembrance and something special for believers.
We believe that any believer can join in this celebration and act of worship, but reserve it just for believers, or people who have made a public declaration of choosing to follow Jesus (Jesus Follower) and strongly encourage that they have taken the first step of baptism.
