About This Event
A piece of fabric can hold a memory. A found object can suggest a story. A conversation can change the direction of an artwork.
Join us at Kasher Gallery & Studios for Common Threads, a conversation with [artist names], presented alongside Interwoven: The Art of Creating Together, the exhibition by Sydell Glasser and Christine Donnelly.
Taking the exhibition’s spirit of creative exchange as a starting point, the panel will explore how artists develop a personal language through the materials they choose—and how that language evolves through relationships with other makers.
Textiles, natural elements, repurposed objects, and everyday materials can carry histories long before they enter the studio. What draws an artist to a particular material? How does its previous life influence what it becomes? And what happens when another person is invited into the process?
Through examples from their own practices, the participating artists will consider the connections between material, memory, experimentation, and collaboration. The discussion will make room for both the practical decisions of making and the personal experiences that give those decisions meaning.
An audience Q&A will follow, offering an opportunity to bring your own questions into the conversation.
Artists, students, collectors, and curious visitors are warmly welcome.
