Commercial auditions require more than a great read. They call for authenticity, confidence, versatility, strong instincts, and the ability to make a product or message feel real — all while delivering a performance that works on camera. In this hands-on class, actors will explore the different skills needed to audition for commercials, from non-speaking and lifestyle spots to scripted dialogue, host and spokesperson roles, and teleprompter work.
We’ll dig into the choices that make a commercial performance stand out: pace, tone, comedic timing, feature versus benefit, and how to find the right balance between being engaging and feeling natural. You’ll experiment with alternate takes, improv, and different approaches to the same material so you can make bold, specific choices and take direction with confidence.
We’ll also tackle the technical side of self-taping, including framing, focal points, eyelines, physical action, and working with props without letting them distract from your performance.
Expect plenty of on-camera practice, practical feedback, and opportunities to try things, make adjustments, and discover what works. Whether you’re new to commercial auditions or looking to sharpen your skills, you’ll leave with a stronger understanding of the process and more tools to bring to your next audition.
