“Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them.”Join us as we gather for the Commemoration of All the Faithful Departed, commonly known as All Souls’ Day. While All Saints’ Day on November 1 celebrates those who have already entered the fullness of Heaven, November 2 is reserved for lifting up the faithful departed who are undergoing purification in Purgatory as they prepare to behold the Beatific Vision.
In Catholic tradition, death does not break the communion shared across the Body of Christ. As the Church on earth, we remain intimately connected to the souls journeying toward total union with God. Because the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass is the highest prayer of the Church—making Christ’s sacrifice on Calvary present upon the altar—it is the most efficacious and loving intercession we can offer. By uniting our intentions with the Eucharistic sacrifice, we fulfill a vital spiritual work of mercy and implore God’s eternal peace for our departed brothers and sisters.
