Columbus Day Shooting Camp
Every miss tells your player something. We'll teach them to read it.
Monday, October 12 · 12:00–4:00 PM · Ages 10–14
Play Practice Basketball, Portsmouth, NH · $99 · Limited to 12 players

The problem isn't effort. It's guessing.
Most young players try to fix their shot by shooting more. They miss, they shoot again, they miss again. That's especially true when they step back from the basket. They don't know why the ball missed, so they can't fix it.
Worse, their self-talk spirals downward as they chase what “not to do” while they keep missing, usually for multiple reasons.
This camp fixes that. In four hours, your player learns a simple system for figuring out what went wrong on any miss and, most importantly, what to change on the next shot. They get a coach in their own head that goes with them to every gym.
The Self-Diagnosis System: how players learn to coach themselves
Every miss falls into a pattern, and every pattern points to a cause:
Short? It's almost always the legs, but more importantly the upper body leverage with “shoulders over toes.” Players learn to shoot with power from the ground up, which is what lets them add range without pushing or heaving.
Long? Too much push, or a flat release. We fix arc with “elbow to eyebrow”
Left or right? Alignment: Elbow to eyebrow, and 2 finger push. Players learn a quick checklist they can run in seconds.
By the end of the day, your player won't need anyone to tell them what went wrong. They'll know.
Range the right way
Shooting from deeper doesn't mean throwing it harder. At 10–14, players who chase range with bad mechanics build habits that take years to undo. We build range from the inside out. Players lock in a repeatable form close to the basket, then step back only as far as their mechanics hold up. They leave knowing their real range today and exactly how to stretch it.
What the afternoon looks like:
12:00 – Intro and overview
12:10 - The 7 Pieces of Shot Mechanics: Footwork, alignment, and the release, built close to the rim
12:30 – The Self-Diagnosis System: Players learn how to recognize miss patterns and the fix for each
12:45 – Range Ladder: Progressions to find and extend each player's true range
1:00 - Spot-up shooting footwork: Catch to shoot, drive, and pull up
1:30 - 1v1 closeout competition
2:00 – Shooting on the move: How to run to the right space, prepared to shoot on every catch
2:30 - 2v2 Shooting on the move competition
3:00 – Shooting off the Dribble: How to use change of speed, direction, and footwork to create shots
3:30 - 3v3 Competition - creating space to shoot with a team
What your player takes home:
A self-diagnosis system they can use in every practice and game
Their personal "range line," plus drills to push it back deeper as they progress
More confidence that they can fix any miss, that doesn't depend on whether the last shot went in
