Inspired by our current exhibition 'Jane Jin Kaisen: Halmang' which spotlights Jeju Island’s women sea divers or haenyeo, this month’s Colours and Corks wine tasting workshop explores what it means to be a female winemaker facing the challenges of operating in a male-dominated industry.

Host and wine writer Kelly Liang will guide participants through five fabulous wines crafted by female winemakers. While savouring the wine, we get glimpses of how women navigate and negotiate multiple identities as professionals, community members, friends, caregivers and mothers.

With shared challenges in growing grapes and making wine, all five delicious wines in this workshop hail from different corners of the world:

  • A sparkling rosé by a leading UK female winemaker and inspiring mentor
  • An ethereal white imbued with Catalan heritage and pride
  • A rich floral gold by the matriarch of Yarra Valley’s founding family
  • A savoury South African ruby celebrating its interracial and cultural mix
  • An inky Argentine purple from a Harvard PhD-turned-star winemaker

Join Kelly for a thought-provoking, interactive, and enjoyable evening of wine and storytelling. Space is limited. Secure your spot today.

In this workshop series, titled 'Colour & Corks: Wine Tasting Reimagined,' we aim to foster an inclusive, interactive, and thought-provoking environment where participants can explore the intricate connections between people, identities, and cultures through the lens of wine. Together, we will not just taste wine as a mere commodity but appreciate it as an art form and craft, infused with passion and dedication. We will explore winemakers, growers, grape varieties, and styles from various corners of the world. Whether you're a complete novice or an expert collector, this workshop promises to deliver something new and exciting for everyone.

About the workshop host

Kelly Liang writes and draws about wine on her website, A Thousand Glasses. She fell into the strange but fascinating world of wine after working in academia, non-profit and tech. Her dream is to travel the world through harvests while tasting great wines, meeting fun people, and collecting captivating stories that she will turn into fiction and web comics.
