Colonial America and Early Settlers Fall History Camp

Learn about life in colonial America with Ms. Zorin this fall!

This program will meet once a week on Wednesdays from 4:00pm to 6:00pm. Each session will be held at the Mount Prospect Historical Society.

This program is designed for ages 6 to 11 years old.

Info: What does daily life look like for adults and children living during this time period? Campers will start the first day of camp by exploring that question, as well as planting vegetables, making butter, and starting the first day of their scrapbook.

Info: Today will be a fun-filled hands-on cooking day! Campers will clean and cut fruits and vegetables, as well as make jam and pickle those fruits and veggies. Campers will explore what was grown on farms, how those plants were harvested, and how that produce was preserved - without a refrigerator or freezer!

Info: Today a librarian from the Mount Prospect Public Library will visit camp and share recommendations for books about Colonial America. Campers will also make a corn husk doll and create more pages in their scrapbook.

Info: All campers are welcome to dress up for this session as we make a meal based on everything a family might have had available on a farm. Campers will also learn about arts and entertainment in this time period.

Info: Winter is just around the corner, so campers will be making a mini quilt for their favorite doll or stuffed animal, just like children growing up in Colonial America. Campers will also get to create foil-punched tin art. The menu for the final day of camp includes hot chocolate with the jams they made and fresh baked bread and butter. They'll wrap up the program by completing their scrapbooks.
