Colne Valley Railway is a delightful heritage steam and diesel railway near Castle Hedingham in Essex. The railway boasts standard gauge train rides, a miniature railway, a model railway, a public signal box and family-friendly events throughout the year.
Our special 'early bird' visit forms part of the 'end of season gala' and gives us the opportunity to enjoy the line using Class 08 and Class 03 locomotives. Class 08 08706 and Class 03 D2184 are expected to be in use. In addition, steam loco WD200 (HE 3800) and the DMU fleet are also expected to be in action! An intensive timetable will be in operation, with passenger, freight and unusual workings expected.
For the track enthusiast, we will explore both the standard gauge line and the miniature railway. The CVR has numerous rail vehicles on site, but rare lines will be available for our special party!
A detailed souvenir track map and stocklist will be provided.
The HST buffet will be open for the sale of snacks and hot drinks. A hot breakfast roll and a hot drink will be provided as part of your fare.
Meet at 08.30 for breakfast. The nearest main line station is Braintree. We estimate the fixture to finish no later than 13:00, allowing for ample time to travel to Audley End for the final event of our AGM weekend.
