Rod Smoth is the musical project of Mississippi singer-songwriter and guitarist Reed Smith, whose roots in Southern gospel and experience in the Jackson music scene helped shape his blend of atmospheric folk, alternative rock, and darker, heavier sounds. His second album, Living in Nowhere, marks a significant artistic evolution, written, recorded, and largely produced on his own while living in isolation in Clarksdale, Mississippi. Influenced by the loneliness of small-town life and the challenges of the pandemic, Smith learned to trust his instincts and embrace a more personal, independent approach to songwriting.Living in Nowhere is a deeply introspective yet ultimately hopeful record about isolation, everyday struggles, loss, self-reflection, and the need for human connection. Through haunting melodies, warm instrumentation, and honest storytelling, Smith explores the tension between feeling stuck and finding beauty in the life around you. The album captures the experience of confronting personal shortcomings, reconnecting with others, and discovering hope in unexpected places. Ultimately, it is a testament to personal growth, perseverance, and the power of music to bring people together.
