Come sit with us. There’s a chair with your name on it.
New York Times bestselling author and award-winning playwright LaDarrion Williams brings COCO QUEENS to Los Angeles for its stage debut at Outside In Theatre.
Set in 1975 Alabama, COCO QUEENS follows four Black women who gather inside a neighborhood beauty shop for their annual Coco Queens Weekend. What begins as a weekend of food, music, laughter, and tradition slowly opens the door to long-buried secrets, old wounds, love, loss, betrayal, and healing.
Inside Gloria’s beauty shop, the women laugh, sing, argue, remember, and reckon with the things they’ve carried for years. Because sometimes the beauty shop is more than a place to get your hair done.
It’s a sanctuary.
It’s a gathering place.
It’s home.
COCO QUEENS is a celebration of Black womanhood, Black joy, Southern storytelling, sisterhood, memory, and the generations of women who came before us.
