CNC 101: From Sketch to Finished Piece
Ever wondered how a simple idea becomes a beautifully crafted piece of wooden art?
Join us at Whaling City Masterworks Artisan Co-Op for an introductory, behind-the-scenes workshop exploring our creative process from start to finish!
Whether you're curious about CNC technology, interested in woodworking, or simply love seeing how things are made, this workshop offers a fun and approachable introduction to the tools, techniques, and creativity behind our work.
What You'll Learn
We'll walk you through the process we use to bring our custom wooden creations to life:
- Sketch & Concept: See how an idea begins as a simple drawing.
- Digital Design: Learn how we transform sketches into precise digital artwork.
- CNC Programming: Discover how we prepare designs for our CNC router.
- Carving & Cutting: Get an up-close look at the machinery and how it shapes wood.
- Sanding & Finishing: Explore the techniques we use to prepare, paint, stain, and protect our creations.
Get Creative!
After exploring our process, you'll have the opportunity to hand-paint your own wooden piece!
Put your creativity to work and experience one of the final steps in bringing a wooden design to life.
Picking Up Your Finished Artwork
Once you've completed your painting, we'll apply a protective polyurethane finish to help preserve your artwork for years to come.
Finished pieces will be available for pickup approximately one week after the workshop, allowing time for the protective finish to be applied and properly cured.
No Experience Necessary!
This workshop is designed for beginners and curious minds. You don't need any woodworking, design, or CNC experience to participate.
