Overview:
Clown is not a character, a technique, face paint or big shoes. It is pleasure, play, openness and optimism. It is a state that sharpens your connection with an audience and allows our own sense of ridiculousness to shine through.
In this workshop we’ll look at status, optimism, failure and the simple act of being seen.
We’ll work on:
• escalation
• complicity
• sensitivity with the audience
• remaining naive, open and imaginative
About the teacher
David Hoskin is an award winning comic, clown, mime performer and writer.
He trained at École Philippe Gaulier and Soho Theatre Comedy Labs+, and has worked extensively across comedy, theatre and immersive performance. His solo physical comedy show A Haunted House has toured internationally, receiving high praise at the Edinburgh Fringe and winning Best International Comedy Show at Mumbai Fringe 2026.
David teaches clown, mime and physical comedy, drawing on contemporary European clown and physical theatre practice. His workshops are practical, playful and performance-focused, exploring presence, physical expression, comic timing and the pleasure of taking risks in front of an audience.
