Join us for hands-on workshops to learn how to grow your own food and boost community connection with gardening skills!
About this Event

September 12th – Plan and Prepare Your Fall Garden

Prepare your growing space for a Fall-planted garden. We will go over best practices for direct seeding and transplanting, and amend and plant the garden beds.

September 19th – Growing Great Garlic

Learn all about garlic and what it takes to have a successful crop the following summer! We will also have the opportunity to discuss and practice planting gardens with direct-sown seeds and transplants, and why there is a difference between them.

September 26th – Indigenous Foodways session –

Afternoon- Common Garden Pests and How to Manage Them

Learn how to identify common garden pests and how to manage them through ecological practices.

October 3rd – The Well-Watered Garden

Consistent irrigation is paramount to good plant growth and we will go over all the different types of systems available for your garden in this session. Using the garden as an example, we will explain and demonstrate how to professionally install your own irrigation set up.

October 10th – No Session (STAT)

October 17th – Soil Health for Home Gardens

Learn the ins and outs of soil science! We will discuss soil texture, fertilizer, and amendments, and practice taking soil samples for testing and how to act on the results. We will also go over tests that you can do to achieve a basic understanding of your soil at home.

October 24th Extend Your Growing Season

This session will focus on season extension and how to accomplish it on a small scale. We will discuss different types of season extension strategies and practice creating the right plan for a home garden. We will setup our some of the structures mentioned and talk about where to source supplies.

October 31st – Garden to Table: Harvest Time

Harvest can be an exciting time of the growing season, so we want to do our best when harvesting the fruits of our labour. In this session, we will cover the best practices for harvesting a wide variety of crops that should be ready at this time of year. We will also touch on the safest way to store your harvest for the long-term. We will end with some fun pumpkin carving!

November 7th – Grow Your Own Orchard: A Guide to Fruit Trees

Learn basic fruit tree theory with a master pomologist while preparing and planting a small orchard in the garden. Bring your questions and come away confident in home fruit tree care!
