St. James Coffee will be CLOSED the day after Christmas! On the day after Christmas we celebrate the feast of St. Stephen, the first Christian martyr. It reminds the faithful that the joy of Christ's birth should extend throughout the year and that Christians are called to stand firm in their faith even in the face of suffering. It is the 2nd day of the Christmas Octave (8 day period celebrating the Nativity).
"And they stoned Stephen, calling upon God, and saying, Lord Jesus, receive my spirit. And he kneeled down, and cried with a loud voice, Lord, lay not this sin to their charge. And when he had said this, he fell asleep."
Acts 7:59-60
Trivia Question!!
In which Classic Christmas Carol does it mentions the Day after Christmas, St. Stephen's Feast Day??
Answer:
Good King Wenceslas looked out
On the FEAST OF STEPHEN
When the snow lay round about
Deep and crisp and even
Brightly shone the moon that night
Though the frost was cruel
When a poor man came in sight
Gath'ring winter fuel
