Wednesday 24 June📍 Held at Workspace, 154-160 Fleet Street EC4A 2DQ
🕘 9am – Arrivals & breakfast
🕤 9.30am – Workshop begins
🕛 12pm – Finish

We live in a digital world.
Surrounded by phones, computers, televisions — but also increasingly internet-connected smart devices, IoT and artificial intelligence.

Digital technology has a hidden impact.
Out of sight, out of mind.

While all sectors need to reduce their emissions, the tech sector’s carbon footprint is ballooning. The impacts of digital technology are rarely seen or felt by us as users — we are quite literally separated from them by our screens.

This workshop will explore the whole supply chain and infrastructure behind our digital lives, helping participants better understand both the positives and negatives of technology so we can make more informed choices about how we engage with it.

Topics explored include:

  • Jevon’s Paradox and rebound effects
  • Technical and psychological obsolescence
  • The full lifecycle and supply chain of technology
  • Ecological backpacks
  • Ore concentrations and resource scarcity

Practical solutions and next steps

The session concludes with collaborative solutions exercises and ready-to-go ideas focused on rebalancing impact versus reward in the digital world.

Build a plan with fellow changemakers

Participants will leave with practical next steps, a stronger understanding of digital sustainability, and connections with like-minded individuals working towards a more balanced future.
