Giving the night a sound. This idea brings German pianist and composer Clemens Christian Poetzsch to Olomouc, where he opens the Czech tour of his new album, NOCTUNES, at Vila Primavesi.
Its eleven piano miniatures grew from walks after concerts: moments to slow down, discover an unfamiliar city and let the impressions of travelling settle. Each piece holds a memory of a particular place, from Porto and Beirut to Prague.
NOCTUNES enters into a dialogue with the nocturnes of John Field and Frédéric Chopin, taking the tradition in a personal, contemporary direction. Classical piano foundations meet a jazz sensibility and the freedom of improvisation. Fragments of ideas and spontaneous moments become music rich in melodic and tonal shades, following the freer, calmer, darker flow of the night.
Vila Primavesi, an Art Nouveau home whose original owners were closely involved in the artistic life of their time, provides a distinctive setting. At its Yamaha grand piano, contemporary music continues the house’s artistic story, adding a new evening in Olomouc to the journey of NOCTUNES.
Come and discover what the night might sound like, and the memories it may awaken in you.
