This program takes place at our French Quarter Visitor Center - 419 Decatur St, New Orleans, LA 70130. Admission is free and open to the public, seating is limited and offered first come, first served basis.Kay Lewis (vocals) and Loïc Da Silva (accordion/fiddle) will be showcasing jazz music from Louisiana and French culture, exploring both how they developed separately and where they intersect.
Kay Lewis was born and raised in a New Orleans, Louisiana, household where music was more than a pastime - it was a way of life. Trained in both vocal performance and movement, she brings together swing, jazz, and theatrical storytelling in a dialogue across generations. From an early age, she was immersed in the vibrant rhythms of her father Kerry Lewis Sr.'s jazz gigs and the lively energy of her uncle/musician Damien Gibson's band rehearsals, formative moments that ignited her lifelong connection to music. Inspired by her high school music teacher, Carl LaCoste, to treat her voice as her primary instrument, Kay sought formal training in classical voice at Xavier University of Louisiana and at New York University, where she studied under the esteemed soprano Harolyn Blackwell and from where she holds both Master's in Classical Voice and Performing Arts Administration.
Kay has performed with the likes of esteemed musicians and performers including voclast/bandleader/cultural curator Dandy Wellington, Jamil Sharif, Lousi Ford, Ronnell Johnson, Mari Watanabe, Dan Levinson, Conal Fowkes, Ricky Alexander, Kevin Dorn and dancer Samuel Coleman alongside the vintage vocal jazz group the Satin Dollz, and frequently performs alongside her brother, musician Kerry Lewis, Jr.
