Bill Liu Quartet featuring ZB WuBill Liu is an emerging guitarist and composer based in Tāmaki Makaurau, Auckland.
Currently completing his jazz studies at the University of Auckland, Bill has studied with leading musicians from Aotearoa and abroad, including Kenji Iwamitsu-Holdaway, Kevin Field, and Lage Lund. . Moving between post-bop and contemporary jazz, his music explores strong melodic ideas, improvisation, and interaction within the ensemble. Bill has performed his original music across Auckland, Wellington, Sydney, and Shanghai.
For this performance, Bill presents a new project centred around his original compositions, drawing inspiration from modern jazz figures such as Wayne Shorter and Joe Henderson
Bill is joined by Lucas Kewell on piano (recently back from his studies in Switzerland), Wil Goodinson on upright bass, and introduces ZB Wu on drums and cymbals.
Since his studies at the New England Conservatory, ZB Wu has performed alongside a wide range of acclaimed jazz musicians, including Dave Holland, Immanuel Wilkins, George Garzone, Jerry Bergonzi, and Gordon Goodwin. He is now living in Shanghai, where he met Bill (and Wil) forming a musical friendship they’re keen to share with CJC.
