About this Event
Ever wondered what actually happens at a City Council meeting? Who makes the decisions? How regular-schmegular people get their voices heard? Or why some things seem to take FOREVER to get done?
Well, we’re going to find out!
Join Cris & Crew for a Civic Field Trip to Houston City Hall! We’re heading to City Council’s evening meeting to see local government in action, learn how the process works, and pick up a few nuts of knowledge along the way.
Here’s the plan:
🐿️ The Huddle: Before the meeting, we’ll get together for a quick Civics 101. Who’s who? What’s on the agenda? What should we pay attention to? And how does all this affect our everyday lives?
🏛️ The Field Trip: We’ll attend a real Houston City Council meeting, observe our elected officials at work, and see how public business gets done.
🗣️ The Debrief: Afterward, we’ll regroup to talk about what we saw, what surprised us, what questions we still have, and how we can get more involved.

Who Should Come?
Anybody who’s ever said, “I don’t do politics,” but is also tired of politics doing them.
You don’t need a political science degree, an understanding of parliamentary procedure, or even a clue what an ordinance is.
Just bring your curiosity, your questions, and some comfortable shoes.
Come curious. Leave with a few more nuts in your civic knowledge stash. 🐿️
BE AWARE: Your chaperone is rebellious, quirky, and uses adult language. Think Ms. Frizzle if she grew up on Rush Hour and Schoolhouse Rock. 😂
This is a nonpartisan civic education experience. City Council meetings are open to the public and free to attend. Optional contributions support the guided educational experience, not admission to City Hall or any political campaign.
