The City Council voted unanimously on August 11, 2026, to place a bond election before the voters of Wylie on November 3, 2026 (Early Voting runs Oct. 19 through Oct. 30). The five propositions totaling $90.5 million are based on input and recommendations from a 16-member citizens' bond committee that met in June. The 2026 City of Wylie Bond Program focuses on improving the City’s infrastructure, quality of life, and high-level of service.

The City of Wylie has experienced a 482% growth in population (from 11,000 to 64,000 residents) over the last 30 years, stretching the demand on services from Public Works, Parks and Recreation, and Animal Control. The Animal Shelter built in 2000 (3,500 sq. ft., 2,000 sq. ft. kennel added in 2006), the Parks and Recreation maintenance building in 1991 (3,500 sq. ft. office, 3,500 sq. ft. shop), and the Public Works building in 2012 (18,500 sq. ft.) have not kept up with the growth and demand due to the age, size, and functionality of the buildings.
The debt obligation from the 2005 bond election will be fulfilled over the next 3 years, lowering the I&S (Interest & Sinking) portion of the tax rate by approximately 10 cents. Approximately $100 million in bond capacity will be rolling off in the coming years, depending on interest rates and other factors. Future debt issued for approved propositions from the 2026 bond election would increase the I&S rate.
