🎬🎻 Wajda’s classic. A brand-new live score. An international premiere at CinEast. ✨As part of our Andrzej Wajda retrospective, celebrating 100 years since the birth of one of Poland’s greatest filmmakers, CinEast presents a very special ciné-concert: “The Conductor” (Dyrygent) with a new live score by acclaimed Polish cellist and composer Michał Pepol.
Wajda’s celebrated 1979 classic tells a story of artistic passion, ambition, jealousy and the price of art, centred around a world-famous Polish conductor whose return to his homeland awakens old tensions and contributes to a crisis in a young marriage. 🎬
At the heart of the film is Beethoven’s Symphony No. 5, which inspired Pepol to compose an entirely new score in dialogue with Beethoven’s music and Wajda’s images. Performed live by Pepol & The People, the score brings together the sensitivity of classical music with a contemporary musical language. 🎻✨
Following its world premiere in Warsaw a week ago, this unique project comes to Luxembourg for its international premiere at CinEast.
This is just one part of our Wajda retrospective, which will bring the work of the legendary Polish director back to the big screen throughout the festival. 🇵🇱🎬
