What makes cinema different from other forms of storytelling is that you're watching a story unfold as if it were happening right then and there. As if it were real, and you're a witness. In a similar way and with the right tools, you can write a visceral, visual, and immersive story that pulls readers in. Join author and editor Jalyn Renae Fiske for a presentation on core aspects of cinematic writing, practical examples, and tips and tricks to bring your story to life.

Jalyn Renae Fiske earned her MFA in Creative Writing from Goddard College in 2017 and was the Fiction Editor for James Gunn's Ad Astra magazine for 8 years. She was also the Editor-in-Chief for The Pitkin Review. In 2025, she took on the role of Faculty Coordinator for the Ad Astra Institute for Science Fiction & the Speculative Imagination. Jalyn writes blends of fantasy, horror, and science fiction that explore themes of identity and transformation. Recently, she's been interested in cosmic horror and folklore. Jalyn's short stories, poems, and essays have appeared in The Science Fiction Tarot, Allegory, Wyldblood, Luna Station Quarterly, Fabled Planet, and NewMyths, among others. Her debut short story collection, Side Quest: Stories, was released in November 2024 and has garnered several indie author awards. Her forthcoming post-apocalyptic-mad-science novel, Soteria, comes out in September 2026. Find her at www.jrenaewriter.com.
