We would like to invite you to our film debate at Victoria University. On this occasion, we will be screening two short films by Diego Paulino: BLACKN3SS (2018) and Paleta de cores (2016).
About Diego:
Filmmaker and screenwriter Diego Paulino was born in Leme, in the state of São Paulo, and it was there that he fell in love with storytelling. Paulino’s work explores issues surrounding the Black diaspora, its fears, and its dreams. His latest short film, the multi-award-winning NEGRUM3, has won over 40 awards and screened at more than 80 festivals across Brazil and around the world. He is currently developing his first feature-length fiction film,
“Experiências Incômodas em Dias Nublados,” as well as the series “Fissura,” a finalist in the FRAPA 2025 pilot script competition. His next film, “A Perdição de Lázaro,” is set for a 2026 debut. He is a member of APAN—the Association of Black Audiovisual Professionals—and a partner and executive producer at Reptilia Produções.
Diego received the Paradiso Award for Best Project at Diáspora Lab.
The film will feature English subtitles. After the screening, we invite you to stay and chat with us.
This event is a collaboration with our friends from the Latin American and Spanish Club - Victoria University Wellington, and Club Latino.
Location: Hugh Mackenzie Building - Victoria University - 28 Kelburn Parade
Admission is free of charge.
This event is part of our project Cuir Utopia:
A series of multidisciplinary events that celebrate and vindicate collective joy as an exercise in political fantasy.
We want to celebrate imagination as a powerful force for creating (other) realities and as a political exercise.
Art condenses within its very core the power of imagination and the political transformation of reality.
Latin Cuirs would like to invite you to a laboratory of imaginations where we can collectively imagine better possible worlds: imagination to power.
Project writing: Belén Cupeiro
Visual design: Ana Jurado
