Class by Leah Siepel “Leaning In: An Exploration of Weight and Movement” 2 - 3 pm* please arrive to class 10 minutes early so we can start on time
* all levels warmly welcomed, including beginners
What becomes possible when we give our weight to another person? In this playful, exploratory contact improvisation class, we'll experiment with giving and receiving weight, noticing how leaning all the way in opens up new possibilities for movement and investigating how weight interacts with momentum, speed, and stillness.
Leah Siepel signed up for her first Contact Improv class 27 years ago because of a crush on a boy in the dance department. She moved on from the boy, but never the dance. Leah is also an educator, consultant, and doctoral student who runs Crosscut Studio.

FAQ:
I haven't done Contact Improv in 20 years! Is this jam right for me?
We invite dancers/humans of all levels of experience and types of ability to this jam. We trust you to know your limits and we encourage you to observe and rest as you'd like. If you have questions or need help, please feel free to approach Leah or anyone else that looks open to offering support.
I've never done CI and barely know what it is. How can I participate?
Absolute beginners should let the host know that they are new to the form so that proper support and guidance can be provided. You are welcome to watch for the first jam, if you'd like, or if you'd like to join in, we will make sure you are buddied up with someone who can show you some basics. Witnessing other dancers is always welcome and is a valued contribution to the dance environment.
Can I bring my kid/s?
Kids are magical beings and we welcome them. If you bring yours, please stay near them and make sure they are safe and respectful of all jam guidelines.
Is the studio accessible by wheelchair?
Unfortunately, it is not. Please email us to let us know how we can best make your attendance possible and comfortable.
