For decades, the Chula Vista Police Department has maintained a culture of community-based policing, innovative problem solving, community engagement, and accountability. The need to provide public safety services to our community with fairness, equity, and justice is not new to our organization. It is deeply engrained into our history and our shared culture. We uphold the highest ideals for our profession, and are proud that our officers serve our residents according to our community's expectations and needs.
Comprised of approximately 250 sworn officers and 100 civilian employees, we are constantly recruiting highly qualified and motivated men and women who have a heart for service. Currently we have approximately 30 open positions for sworn officers.
We currently have a $25,000 Lateral Bonus, $5,000 Moving Bonus, and starting Police Recruit Pay UP to $80,000 based on experience. (Recruit Pay increase Eligibility: Honorable Discharged from Military, 1-yr experience as Private/Non-Safety Correctional/Detentions Officers. 6-mnths experience as Correctional Deputy Sheriff, Military Police or Military Detentions, Peace officer experience in another state, and Federal Law Enforcement Exp.)

The Positions:
1. Police Recruit is the entry-level position to a career in municipal law enforcement. Police Recruits learn and participate in established curriculum and subsequently pass all tests given by training staff, including academics and manipulative skills such as defensive tactics, firing weapons with accuracy, and driving at high speeds on a set test course while maintaining control. After successfully completing the Police Academy, the Police Recruit will then automatically promote to the classification of Peace Officer.
Compensation: Police Recruit salary range is $66,417 annually. After 6 months and successful graduation from Academy, Police Recruit will automatically jump to Peace officer Salary pay scale.
**Military, Military Police, Federal Law Enforcement, Out of State Law Enforcement, Private/Non-Safety Correctional/Detentions Officers May be eligible for bonus starting salary of up to $80K based on experience**
Compensation: Peace Officer salary range is $87,715-$106,617. Peace Officers will receive an additional 3% pay increase and $2,000 stipend on July 2023.
2. Police Officer Lateral: Applicants currently employed as a paid, full-time sworn Peace Officer (or equivalent) with a California city Police, county Sheriff, or state law enforcement agency with at least one year of continuous full-time law enforcement experience at time of application. A copy of the appropriate POST certificate must be submitted at time of application.
**Incentive: up to $25k Lateral incentive + $5K moving bonus**
Additionally, up to $5K moving allowance provided for out of county applicant (over 70 miles). Salary is negotiable dependent on years of experience. TOP STEP met at 3.5 years.
Compensation: Peace Officer salary range is $7,310 - $8,885 monthly. Peace Officers will receive an additional 3% pay increase and $2,000 stipend on July 2023.
3. Police Dispatcher Trainee/Police Dispatcher (Full Time Position): Police Dispatch Trainee is the entry-level class in the Police Dispatcher series. Employees at this level are not expected to perform with the same independence of direction and judgment on matters allocated to the journey level. Since this class is typically used as a training class, employees may have only limited or no directly related work experience. Employees work under immediate supervision while learning job tasks.
Compensation: Police Dispatcher Trainee salary range is $4,683 - $5,693 monthly. After successful completion of Field Training, candidates will be promoted to Police Dispatcher
Police Dispatcher - To receive, evaluate, and transmit emergency and routine voice radio messages via telephone, and teletype and automatic alarm; to dispatch required equipment and personnel in accordance with standard policies and procedures; to maintain records; and to do related work as required. This is a full journey level class within the Police Dispatcher series and has the ability to perform a full range of duties assigned with only occasional instruction or assistance as unique situations arise.
Compensation: Police Dispatcher salary range is $5,152 - $6,262 monthly.
4. Police Call taker (Part Time Position): To receive, evaluate, and act upon 911 emergency and non-emergency telephone communications in the areas of law enforcement and local government operations; and to perform other support duties. Receives general supervision from the Police Dispatcher Supervisor; may receive technical supervision from a Police Dispatcher.
Compensation: Police Call Taker is an Hourly position: $20.66-$25.11/Hr

5. Police Records Specialist provide office support work related to police records and similar law enforcement functions.
Compensation: Salary Range is $41,835.04 - $50,850.80 Annually
6. Community Services Officer (Full time and Part Time positions) To perform non-sworn work of a limited scope in support of Police Department operations, services, and functions including patrol, court liaison, special investigations, fraud and forgery, registration of sex offenders and vehicle abatement; provides support to sworn police officers by relieving them of routine duties; to carry out specific assignments in a particular phase of police work; and perform other related work as required.
Compensation (Full Time): Salary range is $48,603.10 - $59,077.20 Annually
Compensation (Part time): Hourly range is $23.37 - $28.40
