Joe Bonamassa calls Chris Cain his favorite blues player on the scene today, a guitarist with the voice of B.B. King and the chops of Albert King. Cain's father took him to see B.B. King when he was three years old and handed him his first guitar at eight. He went on to study jazz at San Jose City College, where he picked up keyboards and saxophone as well, and where he later taught improvisation himself.
His 1987 debut, Late Night City Blues, drew four Blues Music Award nominations including Guitarist of the Year. Alligator Records released Raisin' Cain in 2021, which brought four more nominations, and Good Intentions Gone Bad in 2024, cut with Kid Andersen producing at Greaseland in San Jose. Robben Ford says Cain has the intensity that keeps you on the edge of your seat. Two shows, one room.
