Discover Chinese calligraphy as both a writing tradition and a visual art with deep cultural roots and a distinctive abstract beauty. In this hands-on introductory workshop, participants will explore the structure and meaning of selected Chinese characters, learn basic brush handling and foundational strokes, and experience how pressure, movement, rhythm, and space can transform writing into expressive art.
Along the way, participants will gain an introduction to Chinese written culture while developing a new appreciation for the beauty of line and gesture. Each participant will create a finished calligraphy piece to take home. No prior experience with Chinese language or calligraphy is required. All specialized materials are provided.
