Experience Tanjong Pagar's rich history and architectural gems.
About this Event

Ports, plantations, people, and places. Journey through Tanjong Pagar’s history from a modest fishing village to a hub of world-class architecture!

The precinct offers far more than its vibrant bars, cafes, and restaurants; walk through history from 1819 to the present day and explore numerous conserved buildings which reveal the significant stories of early migrants — how they lived, prayed, worked, and contributed to Singapore’s growth and success.

Discover the struggles of rickshaw pullers and the opulent lives of wealthy merchants and see how Tanjong Pagar and its ports became the commercial lifeline of Singapore in its colonial era. Appreciate how URA's conservation efforts have maintained the area's historical significance while allowing for modern development, creating a unique blend of old and new.

About the Chinatown Heritage Walks

Thank you for your interest in joining the Chinatown Heritage Walks! This is a series of weekly walks to the four districts within the Chinatown Conservation Area.

A collaboration between the URA and Friends of the Museums (FOM), these two-hour walks are led by FOM docents. Besides learning about the rich history of Chinatown, you will also discover how our conservation efforts are an integral part of URA’s commitment to sustainable urban development, shaping the distinctive, liveable and endearing city we live in today.

Through these walks, you will also gain a better appreciation of the challenges in balancing different needs for land and the innovative solutions that we have adopted to overcome them, in tandem with URA's efforts to plan sustainably across our social, economic and environmental realms.
