Gather with us in Arlington, VA, for a mesmerizing Chimney Swift Watch at Penrose Square. Marvel as hundreds of these agile birds swirl through the sky in a breathtaking display before diving into their communal roost for the night. Perfect for bird enthusiasts of all ages and levels.
The evening kicks off at 6:00 PM with a short informative presentation to set the stage. Then, as the sun dips toward the horizon (~7:00 PM), the swifts will begin their dramatic descent.
We’ll provide binoculars and spotting scopes so you can enjoy an up-close view of their aerial acrobatics as they circle the chimneys before settling in. You may want to bring a lawn chair if you would prefer to sit during the event. The watch will last about 60 minutes, though timing may shift slightly based on weather and the swifts’ activity. Dress for the outdoors, and bring your curiosity!
