The 2026 West Virginia Book Festival will present a series of programs and workshops during the event. All events and programs are free and open to the public.Beginning at 11:30 am, children’s author D.H. Anderson will share her first book, It All Started in My Barn, on the Word Play stage in the Charleston Coliseum and Convention Center.
Using original watercolor painting, Anderson will present her story of the arrival and subsequent birth of a filly in her barn. Her reading style relays the emotions of excitement, anticipation, and wonder while connecting with her audience through intermittent participation. This is followed by an educational craft with continued "horse" conversation.
D. H. Anderson became passionate about horses through her daughter's love for riding, leading her to embrace the equestrian community. Witnessing the birth of and interacting with Lady Thistle has greatly influenced Donna's career as an award-winning equestrian writer who gives young readers a peek into equine life through delightful stories. Her schedule is full of visits to libraries and schools!
