Detroit DJs
Mike “Agent X” Clark
A true architect of Detroit's underground house movement, Mike “Agent X” Clark has been shaping dance floors since the early days of Detroit's electronic music evolution. Influenced by the sounds of Motown, jazz, funk, disco, and Chicago house, Clark helped establish a distinctly Detroit approach to house music that eventually became known as Detroit Beatdown. A DJ, producer, label founder, and longtime ambassador of the city's underground, his contributions include work with Underground Resistance, Planet E, and Members of the House, as well as founding Strictly Beatdown. Agent X represents the deep roots, soulful spirit, and uncompromising independence that continue to define Detroit dance music.
Deeper Waters
Detroit's own husband-and-wife duo, Brandon and Danielle Redoute, have been making waves in the underground since meeting on a Detroit dance floor in 2013. Blending soulful and funky house, disco, and Detroit techno, their approach to DJing reflects a shared appreciation for the music, culture, and community that brought them together. Beyond the decks, they are producers, collaborators, and founders of Detroit Techno Family Records, an independent label dedicated to supporting artists and preserving the spirit of underground music. Having shared stages with some of the city's most respected pioneers and contemporary selectors, Deeper Waters continue to build bridges between generations and cities while keeping the dance floor at the center of everything they do.
Brent Shay
A fifth-generation Detroiter, Brent Shay brings the grit, character, and independent spirit of his hometown into his musical work. A DJ, producer, and curator, his sound moves through darker territories of industrial techno, acid-driven house, and stripped-down underground rhythms. Connected to Detroit's independent electronic music community through collectives and projects including Detroit Grit, minimal detroit, and Techno Snob, Shay represents a new generation of artists committed to building culture from the ground up. His approach is raw, uncompromising, and rooted in the belief that the underground belongs to the people who actively sustain it.
Chicago DJs
Tim Beats
Bringing the unmistakable energy of Chicago's South Side, Tim Beats is a longtime friend and supporter of the Detroit underground. A veteran of Chicago's local house scene, his sets draw from the city's rich house music heritage, blending classic Chicago influences with soulful selections, funky rhythms, and dance-floor-driven grooves. His connection with Deeper Waters and Detroit Techno Family goes back several years, including appearances at The Underground Bazaar, Whose House?! Chicago x Detroit, and No Facade at Temple Bar. More than just a visiting DJ, Tim represents the musical connection and genuine friendships that have kept Chicago and Detroit intertwined for generations.
DJ Obatala
A familiar name in the Chicago-to-Detroit underground connection, DJ Obatala has shared lineups with some of the region's respected house music selectors, including appearances alongside Deeper Waters, Mike “Agent X” Clark, and Tim Beats at Detroit Techno Family events. His inclusion represents the collaborative spirit of the Midwest underground, where musical relationships and dance-floor culture extend well beyond city limits. When Chicago and Detroit come together, Obatala is part of the musical exchange that makes this rivalry worth celebrating.
Fred D Glass
Representing the Windy City, Fred D Glass joins this Chicago-versus-Detroit gathering as part of a lineup celebrating the depth and diversity of the Midwest's underground dance music community. Bringing another Chicago voice to a night built around the musical heritage shared by these neighboring cities, Fred D Glass helps round out a showcase that is about more than hometown allegiances. It's about the selectors, communities, and independent music culture that keep the underground moving.
