What's Special About This Concert:•The Oklahoma Chamber Symphony joins the Crown Heights Christian Church Chancel Choir to perform Part I of Handel's Messiah, one of the most celebrated works in the choral-orchestral repertoire. Composed in an astonishing 24-day burst of inspiration in 1741, Messiah remains among the most frequently performed works in classical music, and Part I contains some of its most iconic movements, including "For Unto Us a Child Is Born" and the triumphant "Glory to God in the Highest."
•This performance takes place as part of Crown Heights Christian Church's Sunday morning service, continuing a collaboration between the orchestra and the church community that began this spring with Haydn's The Seven Last Words of Christ.
•Audiences can expect the full combined forces of orchestra and chancel choir tracing the Nativity story — from ancient prophecy, to the angels' announcement to the shepherds, to the jubilant proclamation of Christ's birth — through some of the most enduring music ever written.
