Shooting Digital Like Film with Seiya Taguchi
Join professional photographer Seiya Taguchi at Ted’s World of Imaging for a three-hour photography class exploring how to capture the character and atmosphere of film using a digital camera.
Designed for beginner to intermediate photographers, this class will break down the visual qualities that make film distinctive, from halation and colour bleed to tonal shifts, light leaks and texture, and show you how to recreate these characteristics through your camera settings, lenses, filters and Nikon Imaging Cloud.
You’ll also explore how different film stocks, including Portra, Superia, Ektachrome and Cinestill, influence mood and colour. Seiya will demonstrate how to look at a film reference, identify the characteristics that define its look, and translate them into adjustable settings you can use with your digital camera.
A key part of the class will be a live demonstration of building a custom film-inspired profile in Nikon Imaging Cloud. Seiya will walk you through his process step-by-step, giving you the method to create and refine your own profiles at home.
Once the theory is covered, take your camera out into the real world for a golden hour photowalk, putting what you’ve learned into practice as you look for light, colour and scenes that suit your chosen film-inspired aesthetic.
Recommended Skill Level: Beginner to Intermediate
Please Note:
- A selection of Nikon Z series cameras including the Z5IIC and NIKKOR Z lenses will be available for trial during the session, along with a Nikon representative to answer your questions.
- You are welcome to bring along your own camera to use during the class. However, to get the most out of this class, if your camera isn’t compatible with Nikon Imaging Cloud and Imaging Recipes, we will have Nikon cameras there with these features available to use.

About Seiya:
Seiya is a freelance Japanese-Australian photographer based between Tokyo and Sydney. With over 15 years of experience in photography, he has shot for clients which include: Amazon Prime, Spotify, Nikon, Virgin Active, Audible, Netflix, and more.
While he primarily focuses on Commercial Photography, the common thread within all his work is the humanity of the moment. Being born in Tokyo and growing up in Sydney, his unique perspective places human experience at the fore– Seiya captures those moments authentically through the use of light and composition, his eye for detail, and his zest for life; distilling them into an all-encompassing image.

Gear Provided:
A variety of Nikon cameras, including the Z5IIC, and lenses will be available for use during the class. Bring your own SD card if you'd like to keep your photos and footage!
