About this Event

Join Dwellers Play Collective and the creative director of Send My Love to the Hill at Nafasi on Centre for a collaborative evening of Memory Mapping. This event is free and open to the public! This event will feature a gallery crawl of exclusive photos from the upcoming book Send My Love to the Hill, a photobook of poetry inspired by the Hill District.

According to an article in the International Journal of Cartography, memory mapping is the human brain's process of organizing, storing, and structuring experiences—such as space, time, and relationships—into internal mental representations called cognitive maps. During this event we will explore that concept more personally by visually creating a collective mapping of personal stories and individual maps documenting your own migration. This will be a imitate event with light bites and lots of community. We can’t wait to see you on Sunday, September 20th @ 2:30PM!

Send My Love to The Hill is a collective love letter dedicated to the Hill District, one of Pittsburgh’s most historic neighborhoods. Through this collection of over 70 photographs and 10 written pieces, Send My Love to the Hill uplifts the Hill District community by capturing raw moments of life there while the neighborhood experiences many changes- the reality for many historic Black neighborhoods that have fallen victim to urban redevelopment. This “photobook of poetry” highlights a neighborhood left behind by its city and the resilience of its community.

Dwellers Play Collective (DPC) is an ever-growing theatre ensemble that gathers near bodies of water. As we nourish one another, we make space for Black folks to play, experiment, question and dwell. With love, we strive to create conditions in which Blackness and Black theatremaking may be boundless and diasporic, defying binaries on every front.

This event is partially being supported by The Pittsburgh Foundation via the Advancing Black Arts Grant
