Join PopRox favs Austin and Tara for a 6 week introduction to character and narrative. We'll build out more interesting and natural scenes with tips and tricks to access new characters and shape their stories. Improv is so much more than games, and this is the course that starts to branch into storytelling and narrative.A perfect next step for those who've done an intro course this year, want to give narrative improv a go, or are looking for a refresher on the basics of character and narrative.
This 6 week course runs 6:30-8:30pm on Wednesdays from October 21st to November 25th. Classes will be at the Toi Aro Arts Centre at 3 Market Lane, Te Aro.

ABOUT THE TEACHERS
TARA MCENTEE has been improvising professionally for more than 15 years and has trained and performed with Improsaurus, The Court Jesters, Playshop and PopRox Improv! She's taught improv all over Aotearoa, and has a passion for narrative improv based on strong characters. She has been described as "a chaotic evil" improviser.
AUSTIN HARRISON is one of Aotearoa's most experienced improvisers and teachers with over 15 years experience. He holds a Master of Fine Arts in Theatre from Victoria University of Wellington and is the current Artistic Director of the New Zealand Improv Festival.
Austin believes improv is a powerful connector which builds communities, boosts confidence and reminds us all how to have fun. He's taught improv in a variety of environments, from intermediate schools, right through to over-65s classes. He's an award-winning performer and producer, a founding member of PopRox Improv and has taken shows to the Edinburgh Fringe and Melbourne International Comedy Festival.
THE STAND-BY LIST
PopRox firmly believes that improv is for everyone, especially when it comes to sharing skills and knowledge. So we're offering "the stand-by list" for all our workshops in 2026. We'll giveaway any spots remaining the week before this course, on a first-come-first-serve basis. No need to provide a reason, no questions asked. If the registration fee is a barrier for you to come along, then simply email [email protected] and we'll pop you on the SBL. Everyone on the list will be notified whether there was a place available for them at least 5 days before the course begins.
