🥾 THE HIKE -
We'll start at Chantry Flat and descend into beautiful Big Santa Anita Canyon, following the creek through a mix of shaded woodland and rugged mountain terrain.
From there we'll work our way toward Hoegees Trail Camp, enjoying the canyon, creek crossings and changing scenery before climbing back through the Winter Creek trail system.
This is one of those hikes where the scenery changes constantly—from cool, shaded canyon to open mountain views—and there's plenty of elevation to make you feel like you've earned your lunch! 😄
The Forest Service describes Chantry Flat as the gateway to several trails, including the Winter Creek and Sturtevant trail systems.

The important thing is ARRIVE EARLY. Parking at Chantry Flat is limited and is consistently reported to fill very early on weekends.
The Forest Service says the Chantry Flat area has developed parking, and vehicles parked there for recreation require an Adventure Pass or an accepted Interagency Pass.
There is also roadside parking when legally available, but vehicles must not be over the white line or block traffic.
