About this Event
Join the Center for Gerontology and Terra Nova Films on Tuesday, November 10 at 11:30 am - 1:30 pm for an inspiring interactive workshop and lunch, featuring films Harold and Maude (Paramount Pictures, 1971) and Thelma (Magnolia Pictures, 2024)
Following this session, participants will be able to:
· Recognize the diversity of aging experiences through exploring how individual identities, life circumstances, and societal expectations shape the experience of growing older.
· Explore film as a powerful medium for reflecting on perceptions of aging, examining how portrayals of older adults have—and have not—changed over time.
· Challenge conventional expectations of later life by recognizing elderhood as a time of continued growth, meaning, purpose, and possibility.
· Identify opportunities to reframe aging stereotypes through language, images, and narratives that promote a more realistic, inclusive understanding of growing older.
· Reflect on how conventional aging stereotypes and assumptions impact you personally.
