Dizziness can have many sources and is often subjectively reported. This 3-part hybrid lecture and hands-on lab series will help PT’s gain confidence in screening, differential diagnosis, and treatment of the three most common forms of dizziness encountered in rehab: cervicogenic, temporomandibular and vestibular. Our faculty break down the complex anatomy, presentations and treatment of the dizzy patient in neuro, outpatient and acute care settings.
- Comprehensive Dizziness Evaluation: Identify common causes of dizziness using evidence-based testing and assessments.
- Differentiate Dysfunction: Gain a thorough understanding of vestibular anatomy and function and apply specialized clinical tests.
- Whole-Body Approach: Evaluate the role of the cervical spine and TMJ in dizziness.
- Intervention Labs: Hands-on practice with vestibular rehab and repositioning maneuvers, plus manual therapy and therapeutic exercises for cervicogenic and TMJ-related dizziness.
Learning Objectives: At the conclusion of this course the participants will be able to:
1. State three causes of dizziness in patients.
2. Perform (3) clinical tests and measures to assess dizziness in patients.
3. Describe the anatomy of the vestibular system and how it relates to dizziness.
4. Identify difference between central and peripheral vestibular dysfunction.
5. Describe the anatomy of the cervical spine and how it relates to dizziness.
6. Describe the anatomy of the temporomandibular joint and how it relates to dizziness.
7. Demonstrate (2) treatment interventions for dizziness due to vestibular dysfunction.
