Biography: Guest Speaker
Simón Silva has spent more than 38 years creating influential art that uplifts the Latino community and championing the essential role of the arts in transforming education. A dedicated advocate, he uses his experience to empower parents, students, teachers, and leaders, emphasizing how artistic expression can foster lasting success for individuals and communities.
Born in Mexicali, Mexico, and raised in California’s Imperial Valley as the seventh of eleven children, Simón worked as a migrant farm laborer from age six to 23. Despite limited support at home, he was determined to pursue a better future through education. He earned an AA from Imperial Valley College and a BFA in Illustration from ArtCenter College of Design in Pasadena.
Simón has since built a distinguished career as an artist, bilingual speaker, educator, and writer, with artwork showcased internationally. He has traveled the country presenting lectures and workshops, inspiring educators, students, and professionals alike. Believing deeply that the arts are a powerful catalyst for innovation and systemic change, Simón looks forward to collaborating to bring these transformative ideas to wider communities.
